I’m Rachel Ireland Meyers, an artist living in Far North Queensland, Australia, in a perfect little spot between the rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.
I consider myself lucky to live immersed in such a unique and stunning natural environment. Waking to the sound of parrots, cockatoos and imperial pied pigeons early in the morning, I am able to gaze at vistas of rainforest, sparkling blue ocean, and landscapes of green whenever I like. Through my artwork, I hope to help others see the beauty of the natural environment and share the joy it brings to my life every day.
As an artist, I often paint for days on end and I am lucky enough to have a fantastic husband and partner who recognises that. I am also mum to four children who range in age from 14 to 27.
My artistic story has its beginnings in commercial art, graphic design and lithography at a time before Adobe Suite existed, when everything was hand drawn.
This is where I developed many of my more versatile skills like managing time, meeting deadlines and conceptualising on demand that have served me well throughout my career and life.
I have a diverse range of qualifications in Art, History, Philosophy, the Social Sciences, Education and Public Policy. All these areas continue to influence my art in one way or another, along with a passion for the history of ideas and an imagination that never stops.
After moving from New Zealand, over the past 30 years I have lived in Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle (WA) and spent 10+ years in Tasmania, finally ending up in Palm Cove, Queensland. You can find my artwork in every state in Australia as well as in North America, New Zealand, Europe, the UK and Japan (among others!).
My overall purpose as an artist is to create artwork that allows others to see the beauty that exists in the natural world.
My art practice centres on re-imagining and re-imaging dominant images drawn from the natural landscape, flora and fauna.
My preferred media are acrylics, mixed media and oil pastels. I’m always drawn to colour and appreciate the joy it brings, not only for me during the painting process, but when others see the finished piece. Building relationships and connecting with people is at the core of what I do both personally through my art and collectively through RIMAAD.
My customers include, families, professionals, medical specialists, art collectors and anyone who wants to add a splash of tropical paradise to their home.
With their vivid colours and uplifting energy, my pieces are a great addition to workplaces as well as homes, as they have the power to brighten up the dullest Monday morning at the office.
A piece of original art is a wonderful gift idea for the discerning art lover in your life and many of my works are purchased by friends and family members who are looking for that unique and meaningful present for a loved one. Not only will they fill your home with warmth and colour, they make an excellent conversation starter when you have visitors to your home, as they are so original and distinctive.
